Choosing the Right Glue for Outdoor Gear
Welcome to our guide on liquid seam seal and adhesive.
Liquid seam seal is a flexible, waterproof glue that fills stitching holes, reinforces seams and helps keep gear weather-resistant. It’s important to use the right liquid seal or adhesive on your garment, and this depends on the item and what fabric it is made of. See the table below to match your gear with the right sealants and adhesives.

Coatings and specialised fabric
Sealants for PU-Coated Fabrics
A ‘PU coating’ is a protective layer made of polyurethane, popular for its durability and water-proofing. For sealing PU coated items we recommend Gear Aid Seam Grip + FC or Seam Grip + WP. The difference between the two is that Seam Grip + FC cures in around 2 hrs but isn’t as long lasting, Seam Grip + WP takes longer to cure but is a more permanent and hard-wearing seam sealer.
Sealants for Silicone-Coated Fabrics
Only silicone-based sealant will adhere to silicone-treated fabrics (such as silnylon and silpoly). In simple terms: only silicone sticks to silicone. Seam Grip + SIL is perfect for the job, it creates a flexible, waterproof seal that moves with lightweight fabrics.
Neoprene Repairs
To repair neoprene items Black Witch / Aquasure + Neo is great to use while out in the wild as it only takes 20-30 mins to cure. For a tougher repair that will last longer use Aquasure + FD
